Run to Home Base

Gianni recently participated in the Run to Home Base at Fenway Park. The Home Base program is a program run by Massachusetts General Hospital and the Red Sox Foundation to offer medical treatment and support to post-9/11 Veterans suffering from traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). TBIs and PTSD are considered the invisible wounds of war and affect many of the soldiers returning from overseas. The Home Base program sees patients within 2 weeks of calling (sooner if needed), will treat no matter what type of discharge the Veteran received, and Vets without insurance will never  get a bill. To say that this is a great program is an understatement; for many of our service members and their families it is life saving. You can read more about their work at www.homebaseprogram.org.

The Run to Home Base is a fun way the organization raises money. The run goes through Boston and ends in Fenway park. The day started with a very touching opening ceremony and we loved watching the runners return through the Green Monster and come across home plate. Gabriella got to see Fenway for the first time- in front row seats nonetheless- and she loved it!  Well, we loved seeing her there and she loved being doted on by her aunt and uncle!!

We were also able to stop by and see Nana- Gabriella's "super-Nana"! The visit was a quick one but we loved seeing her and again, Gabriella loved getting spoiled with attention.

It was a wonderful way to spend the weekend and a great cause to support. A special thank you to everyone that contributed to Gianni's run!!

xo,
Mary
